Also mentioned on the reverse is "Saratoga." It was on September 27, 1777, that "Brigadier General William Whipple commenced his duty in command of the New Hampshire Troops in the Vermont and New York campaigns, which ended with the Battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the American Revolution.
