Whipple House

The white building on the right is the house of Colonel Joseph Whipple, youngest brother of General William Whipple (the signer of the Declaration of Independence). The larger five-story building in the center of the photo is the Rockingham Hotel.

Joseph's house was built in 1760, and is best known as the residence and Customs Office of Colonel Joseph Whipple. It 1969 it was moved to 599 Middle Street. Its former location is now part of the TD Bank parking lot at 333 State Street.

The Rockingham Hotel, built in 1885, is still located at 401 State Street, 0.4 miles from the Moffat-Ladd House where General William Whipple lived.
