This Bacon, Whipple & Co. lighter bears the name of the investment banking firm Bacon-Whipple & Co., founded in Chicago in 1926 by William T. Bacon and Jay Northam Whipple (1897-1973). In the early 1980s, when Bacon-Whipple was having financial difficulties, it merged with the St. Louis-based brokerage and investment bank Stifel Nicolaus. The Bacon-Whipple name was gradually withdrawn.
