According to a post on the Whipple Company Store blog, Whipple was named after Fanny A. Whipple, the mother of Lucy Gertrude Dent. The building is located at 7485 Okey L. Patteson Rd., Scarbro, WV 25917-8003. Scarbro is less than a mile south of Whipple, West Virginia, in the region of the Whipple coal fields.
