Wayne Whipple (1856-1942) was an American author of young adult books. The following photos from George Carroll Whipple III's photo collection are a from a few of Wayne's books.
Of particular interest is his book entitled The Story of the American Flag. Note the design of the flag on the cover of the book below. Wayne created a "Whipple Flag" for a contest in 1912, which was chosen from among 500 entries. Wayne "called his flag the 'Peace Flag' in tribute to the global peace movement in the years preceding World War I. In late August 1913, the 'Peace Flag' name was used, unrelatedly, at a meeting of nations at The Hague, Netherlands." Read Blaine Whipple's article about that Whipple Flag, posted on the Whipple Website.
