British writer Dorothy Whipple (née Stirrup) was born 26 Feb 1893 in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK, and died 14 Sep 1966 in Blackburn. A writer of popular fiction and children's books, she has been described as the "Jane Austen of the 20th century." Her work gained popularity between the world wars and again in the 2000s. Dorothy married Henry Whipple in 1917.
