Whitehorse Tavern

This is a photograph of what remains of the Whitehorse Tavern in Newport, the colony's original statehouse. The Rhode Island General Political Assembly met here during the first three Whipple generations. Captain John, as well as his sons John Junior, Joseph, Eleazer, and Samuel, met here at various times over the years for two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the fall to attend to the colony's business.
