The small commemorative plaque seen on the south exterior wall of the present Girl Scouts of America Building on old Mill Street (now Charles Street) marks the site of the first gristmill in Providence. Captain John's oldest daughter Sarah, and her husband John Smith Junior and their descendants, owned and operated it.
