North Burial Ground

Bob and Barbara in the North Burial Ground

Bob Whipple, my brother, and Barbara Carroll, my research consultant and coauthor, are attempting to cut away an overgrowth of weeds at the North Burial Ground. Captain John and Sarah's gravestones are the first two just this side of the box tomb. There are 27 Whipples buried in this section most all descended from Joseph Whipple, Captain John's seventh son. His gravestone is the broken one on the first row. The street in the background is Eastern Street. The tall gray monument has the name Temple inscribed on it. Almost everyone I've talked to agrees that Captain John Whipple should have a similar monument erected in his honor. I often have wondered if the thousands of his descendants would be willing to donate a few dollars to have it made and placed on this burial site.
