William Blackstone Monument

This is a roadside monument to The Reverend William Blackstone, the first white man to settle permanently in Rhode Island, whose property was bought by David Whipple the sixth son of Captain John, in 1692. The monument is located on Broad Street about three blocks to the northeast of the Whipple Bridge over the Blackstone River on highway 122. It is believed that David Whipple is buried in his family burial plot next to his house, about one block south of the monument.
